Why a supply closet for kids and families?
Up to 10% of Arlee's students are considered homeless. These students sometimes live in hotels and campgrounds or other non-permanent structures, but most often they are "doubled up" in other people's homes. This kind of living situation can strain resources, and students sometimes come away with less than what they need. In 2020, Arlee School District was awarded a grant from the Office of Public Instruction to support our homeless student population by creating a supply closet.
What will be in it?
The Cache Closet will supply winter clothing such as coats, snow pants, hats, gloves, and snow boots; PE clothing such as shorts and gym shoes; hygiene products such as shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant and soap; school supplies such as notebooks, folders, pens, and rulers; and non-perishable food items including canned goods, dry goods like spaghetti, rice, and cereals.
Where is it located?
The Cache Closet is located in the 3-6 elementary building. It is not freely open to the public. If you or your child needs something, please contact Anna Baldwin at 726-3216 x2315 (Grants Office) to gain access to the closet.
No, we are NOT currently taking donations! Thanks to the generosity of community members near and far, our supply room is completely full. Watch this space for updates in the next school year!
